Hi fellow interns

I am pretty much new to this online blog experience. I will try my best.  For the most part, today went well. I am noticing that my students are acting out at a higher frequency lately.  I feel that it's due to it being mid-third quarter.  Are the rest of you experiencing something similar?

  1. I believe so too. We are fast approaching the end of the school year, and I think that after Spring Break we will see that frequency rise even higher. They will be completely anxious for summer vacation. But I think that we need to come up with techniques to cope with the pre-summer "off-task behaviors."

    1. I gave my students an Algebra 1, chapter 2 test today. It covered 8 sections. I tried something new. I wanted to find a way to keep the students quiet when they have completed their test so that they do not disrupt the other student who are still taking it. I usually just prepare challenging exercises for those students who finish. However, in addition to the challenging lesson, I wrote on the board that if they talk to other students taking the test I will deduct 1 point from their test each time I have to call their name out. I explained to them that it is a test and they should not be sharing answers. My second period went so smoothly. There were no students penalized. In my third period, 2 students were penalized. And my last period, no students were penalized.

    2. I like the idea of deducting points for talking during tests or quizzes. I have a problem with students at times yelling out answers. I will implement this new procedure for next time. I'll let you know how it went.
